Hello and welcome to cfrealmadrid.com. Guys, today we are doing Match Review of Unionistas vs Real Madrid. The match that was played in Copa Del Rey Round of 32 in Pistas del Helmántico was a thriller. The game comprised of shocks and astonishments from minnows Unionistas especially through solo efforts of Romero and company. Unionistas were in the hour of their dreamland but Spanish Giants remain triumpher at the end by scoring three goals.
This Copa Del Rey is new in terms of single game structure. We qualify for the next round of the tournament. Before the game, there was a lot of gossips around regarding managing such a large magnitude game in the stadium but it happened safely. The hosts did more than the before mentioned and caused many problems in game than expected. The game is quite physical and we tripped over to a 1-3 win. Unionistas will remember this match against us. Let’s discuss the Match Review of Unionistas vs Real Madrid as follows in detail.
Unionistas vs Real Madrid-Match Review:
The match started in a packed environment in Salamanca. Madrid could only able to shoot two balls on target in the first half. The Segunda B Unionistas despite with 30% possession showed great resistance. Gareth Bale made the early breakthrough after 18 minutes. He deflected his right foot into bottom right corner of the net which goalkeeper failed to reach.
Unionistas were down by 0-1 when 23 years old Alvaro Romero rose on the occasion and scored a solo goal. He will remember this goal for the rest of his life. Madrid gained the lead with 1-2 within five minutes when Diaz and Gongora both fell over a cross from Marcelo, the ball went to the bottom right corner. In the end, the ambitious Diaz sprinted in from the right giving Madrid a two-goal lead to cement our place in the last 16 of the Copa Del Rey.
Starting Lineup:
Goalkeeper:
Alphonse Areola started for Real Madrid on no.1 spot against Unionistas. He did everything in the match which was needed for the team. The results could have been different and more awkward for us without his efforts and saves. He saved a close range shot which was the best moment of his game.
Full backs:
In the full back roles, Captain Marcelo and Carvajal started for Los Blancos. Marcelo was not up to the mark for this game. He could proved himself with this opportunity with amount of skills he have and the magnitude of the opposition like this, Marcelo could really challenge the opposition but not effective as much. His passing against Unionistas are bad. He had many giveaways in the game. Among one of them led to the goal of the Romero.
Dani Carvajal, on the other hand, was agile in carrying the ball forward but stopped in some challenges quite a few times. He literally vanished as the game went on. He looked exhausted and ineffective towards the end of the game. Odriozola absence will further haunt us if the Spanish is injured or suspended because we don’t have any natural back-up of him.
Centre Backs:
In the centre of defense, Militao and Nacho started the game together for the very first time this season. Militao did many mistakes throughout the full game. He did not comfortable with or without the ball. Nacho did not hold the things against third division attack. Overall Madrid defense in transitions was quite odd. We have given ample chances to Unionistas but they failed to cash those chances.
Midfielders:
Talking about Casemiro, Real Madrid midfield is incomplete without him. Casemiro is arguably the man of the match for me. He sets up James in a scoring position in the first half. The Brazilian showed some glimpses of dribbling going forward between the lines. It was the Casemiro who initiated the Diaz’goal by winning the ball that was declared as own goal later.
Fede Valverde did not looked engaged in the game. However he was not bad though, but looked uninterested on many occasions in the game. The other midfielder that started for Los Blancos was James Rodriguez. James could score multiple goals but he did not look as productive as needed. Although assisted a goal to Welshman, he missed two clear cut chances. Isco made a cameo appearance of 10 minutes in the game but could did anything noticeable.
Attackers:
Vinicius still has raw finishing and poor decisioning in his game play. It showed against Unionistas. He already scored against them playing for Castilla last season. Gareth Bale was reactionless throughout the game. He looked nervous, hurt, struggled to get involved and staying away from challenges. Although his deflected effort made a goal breakthrough but he looked emotionless with a little smile when Casemiro ran to him after the goal.
Karim Benzema looked ineffective and struggled throughout the minutes he played. From the bench, Luka Jovic came for 15 minutes and with open chance, he failed in it. He looked diminish. Another player from bench made an impact, Brahim Diaz hunger for the goal really turned the tables for us. His involvement in the second goal (own goal) and his solo effort from the right flank helped Madrid to set up two goals. We hope that this performance leads him to many opportunities in the future.
Verdict:
Madrid won the game and through to the next round of 16 in Copa Del Rey. That is the only thing which must be remembered in the long run.
