Real Madrid vs Sevilla-Match Review:
Zidane made four changes to the Madrid following the victory against Atletico in Jeddah. Militao, Marcelo, Vazquez and Rodrygo all entered the side. We saw Isco and Mendy dropped to the bench. We saw injured Ramos joined suspended Valverde on the side lines.
Madrid started the game slowly. We struggled to test the goalkeeper of opposition with four of our shots came from outside of the box. Sevilla scored a almost goal in the first half but denied by VAR following the tackle of Gudelj’s on Militao. Madrid stepped up in the second half in 57th minute. Casmiro netted the goal by lifting the ball over the goalkeeper from Jovic flicked through ball. De Jong levelled the scores seven minute after the first goal.
It took five minutes for Madrid to deliver the response. Casemiro rose on the front post to node home his second goal of the match to make it 2-1 in the 69th minute. Kroos and Modric had opportunities to add another goal to Madrid’s tally. The match ultimately remained 2-1 to the hosts until the end.
Thibaut Courtois started against Sevilla. He is the most improved player in this season. Against Sevilla, his performance was average. He merely had two saves in the match and could not keep the clean sheet. Although his name is among the best goalkeepers in this season.
On the flanks, Carvajal and Marcelo started in the lineups as a full backs. Carvajal played excellently against Sevilla. He always worked hard defensively and offensively in pressing the opposition. His passing ability and crossing overall helped the team in initiating the attack. He is the core of Madrid defense now.
On the other hand, Marcelo helped his team in the attacking but he was absent at the back. The thing everyone know about Marcelo that he does not bother about defense. It was his mistake from the left hand side that caused Madrid De Jong’s goal. Zidane substituted Marcelo for Mendy. The decision proved good at the end as Mendy provided good defensive cover until the end of the match. Marcelo booed heavily from the fans which is emotionally tough for the individuals sometimes.
In the heart of defense, Miliato looked better than Varane on many occasions. Both of the centre backs cut off the attacking line supply of the ball before entering in the danger area by standing higher on the pitch. Varane was good in the air and ball recoveries. On the other hand, Militao cleared many balls of the opposition.
In the absence of Valverde, Kroo, Casemiro and Modric started in the midfield. Madrid is having the best midfield in the World. Zidane always pressurizes other teams through their midfield. Modric and Kroos are the main maestros of Real Madrid. Kroos had almost 97% pass accuracy against Sevilla. Modric was also good in creating balance and creativity in the field against Sevilla.
Luka Jovic started for Real Madrid against Sevilla. As Benzema was coming back from the injury, Luka Jovic started and above average in the match. He looked isolated in the attack in the opening first half of the game. He could score a goal but marked a assist for his name against Sevilla. Karim Benzema came lately in match. He was struggling to find the rhythm and will back to his best in the coming matches.
Rodrygo started on the left flank against Sevilla. He did not impress as much. He was struggling in finding room in the opposite half. Rodrygo got substitution and Vinicius Jr. came on the scene. He created ripples in the opposition defensive lines but it was ineffective as he lacked finishing and composure. It is a thing from Vinicius which is missing on the field. Although Vinicius is in the learning curve but these sort of improvements will help the youngsters in the long run.
Vazquez started the match on the right flank. His work rate is pretty good in the defense as well as in the attack. He played the full 90 minutes of the match. He is a busy player and good for the backup.
Best Performance of the Match:
Carlos Casemiro of Brazil is the holding engine in the Midfield of Madrid. He was criticised heavily and called a blocker only. He improved his passing ability and offensive work also. Casemiro scored two goals against Sevilla to earn a man of the match. Casemiro is the only player in the Madrid squad of his position. Zidane gave him the confidence he was lacking in the last season.Casemiro is the most important player of the squad and played most number of matches.
I hope Madrid will carry the winning momentum in the Copa Del Rey against Unionistas. That’s all from the Match Review of Real Madrid vs Sevilla. You can interact with us by making a comment on the post. Until the next match, Good Bye and Hala Madrid!
