Welcome to the cfrealmadrid.com. Today we are doing Match Preview of Real Madrid vs Sevilla on Match Day 20. After winning the Super Copa trophy, Real Madrid is up against the 4th spot Sevilla in Chamartin. This game sees Julen Lopetegui return to the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time, a little over a year after he was sacked by Real Madrid. We are currently competing with Barcelona on goal difference as both of us have 40 points in the league table.
Coming to the Match facts, Real Madrid have beaten Sevilla in each of their last 10 La Liga meetings at Santiago Bernabéu, scoring 35 goals in the process (3.5 goals on average per game), their best run at home versus the Andalusian team in the competition. Moreover, Real Madrid have scored 325 goals in their 151 meetings against Sevilla in La Liga. Only vs Espanyol (378) and Athletic Club (352), have the Whites scored more often than versus Sevilla in the competition’s history. .
Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last 10 La Liga games (W6 D4), their best run without losing in the competition in a single season since January 2017 (16, also under Zinedine Zidane). On the other hand, Sevilla are unbeaten in their last five away La Liga games (W3 D2), their best away unbeaten run in the competition since September 2015 when they went nine under Unai Emery. Lets discuss the Match Preview of Real Madrid of Sevilla in detail as under:
Real Madrid vs Sevilla-Match Preview:
We will have to try to get three points in this match. This will put a bit more pressure on Barcelona heading into their first game under Quique Setien on Sunday. Sevilla have been impressive this season. Sevilla record against big teams has been a very poor one for a number of years. It will severely damage their chances of competing with the likes of Real Madrid across a 38 game season.
The main problem of Sevilla is their striker. They already have tried to rectify it this week. Moanes Dabour has been sold. The summer signing Javier Hernández is also on the radar for exit in Summer. Leganes Youssef En-Nesyri who has bought in €20m deal, he could be involved against Madrid in this game. It may come too soon for the Moroccan to start but he could be involved here.
Our main problem is our injury concerns and suspensions. For Real Madrid, Fede Valverde is suspended while Sergio Ramos is injured. Karim Benzema are included. In Jeddah, we coped with our attacking injury problems by packing the midfield. It worked out pretty well. The results and performance persuade us to follow the same tactics in La Liga against Sevilla. It could allow us to gain control of this game and secure an important victory.
Kick-off time:
The match of Real Madrid vs Sevilla is going to be held on 18th January at 16:00 C.E.T in Spain. You can see the kick off timing map for timing according to your region.
Squad:
Goalkeepers: Courtois, Areola, and Altube.
Defenders: Carvajal, Militao, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo and Mendy.
Midfielders: Modric, Kroos, Casemiro and Isco.
Attackers: Benzema, Jovic , Brahim, Lucas, Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo
Starting line-up:
( 4-4-2 ) Courtois-Carvajal, Varane , Militao, Mendy-Casemiro, Modric, Kroos, Isco-Rodrygo, Benzema.
Goalkeeper:
Courtois will start for us in the goalkeeping position. Courtois has now settled himself in Real Madrid. He saves a shot against Atletico penalty shoot out of Partey. He is the most improved player of this season. The Belgian has nine clean sheet in La Liga so far. He will aim another in this Sevilla clash.
Defenders:
In the heart of defence, Militao and Varane will most probably start the game for Real Madrid. Nacho Fernandez can be the starter because today is his birthday. Real Madrid will miss the presence of their leader Sergio Ramos . Sergio Ramos injured for very first this season. So whether Militao or Nacho starts, the responsibility on Varane’s shoulder will increase. He will have to step up to do this job. As he is our future captain and deputy of Ramos in the defense.
In the fullback position, Dani Carvajal is absolute starter as Odriozola is missing from the squad. In the left back position, there is a tie between Marcelo and Mendy. Mendy is excellent in Super Copa. Zidane preferred him above Marcelo in the previous matches. So, I think he will play the match.
Midfielders:
In the midfield, Kroos, Casemiro and Modric are the sure starters. Valverde is not in the squad because of the historic tackle that went on to victory in the final. We will surely miss his presence in the midfield . Kroos and Casemiro were in the holding role in the cameo appearance of five midfield saga by Zidane.
Valverde is not playing so there is no chance that Zidane could use 5 midfielders formula here. He will deploy diamond formation with Isco in the free role against Sevilla. Furthermore, the form of Modric is a treat to watch in his chances creation and creativity in this age. The Croatian magician is still the core unit of the Los Blancos midfield. He is among the top assists for the Real Madrid this season. .
Attackers:
Luka Jovic could not impress the fans in the absence of Karim Benzema. As Benzema is included in the last minute in squad against Sevilla. So both will share the spot of no.9 in the game. Bale is also not in the squad. So Rodrygo will most probably start for Real Madrid. Brahim Diaz is also in the squad with Lucas Vasquez. Looking at squad, we are having incredible attacking options in youngsters. The only thing which is concerning is that Real Madrid could not convert the chances into the goal. The teams lack in composure and finishing.
Verdict:
Sevilla’s track record of showing signs of developing into a top team and then folding when they go away to Camp Nou or the Bernabeu is a familiar one. Sevilla is always a tough side to beat. I will definitely go with Real Madrid in this match considering the form and winning mentality of the Los Blancos. That’s all from today Match Preview of Real MAdrid vs Sevilla. Until the next time Hala Madrid!
