Welcome back to cfrealmadrid.com. Today, we are presenting the Full Month Review of October for Real Madrid. October was a mixture of toughness and ease for Real Madrid. There were a lot of fixtures, lots of traveling, and very hectic schedules. Real Madrid played 5 games in October and we will review them here to judge the performance. Three of these games were in La Liga Santander and two games in UEFA Champions League Group Stage. One game which was to be played against FC Barcelona has been shifted in December.
Real Madrid October Review:
October was a balanced month for Real Madrid and we are going to review it in depth. There are some positives as well as negatives to take from this month. So, first of all, let’s take a look at the match results for all the fixtures in October.
Real Madrid played a total of 5 games in the month of October with 3 Wins, 1 Draw, and 1 loss. Real Madrid won against Granada, Galatasaray, and Leganés with 4-2, 0-1, and 5-0 scoreline respectively. Meanwhile, we drew against Club Brugge with a 2-2 scoreline and lost to Mallorca with a 1-0 scoreline. Three of those fixtures were at home and 2 were away games.
So, considering these results, we dropped to the second position and could not maintain the first position after a wreckless start of Barcelona at the start of the season and they chased us in the end. In the Champions League, we literally did not play on our potential and failed to express ourselves. Let’s have a look at each fixture in a little bit detail.
Real Madrid vs Club Brugge:
In that match, we were 2 goals behind Club Brugge until the last 10 minutes. We somehow managed to equalize the score and the match ended as a draw. To be honest, we deserved to lose and we are lucky to get 1 point from that game. The whites seemed to be puzzled in the first half especially Courtois who was later replaced by Areola. We knew that that match could be challenging considering our injury crisis.
Club Brugge scored twice in the first half and there was a huge pressure on Los Blancos to maintain their legacy in the Champions League. Then, Sergio Ramos took the charge in the second half and scored the goal. Time looked to be against the Royals. However, Rudd Vormer’s dismissal gave them a numerical advantage and after the red card, Casemiro headed a goal from the set-piece to equalize the score. The match ended in a draw.

Madrid vs Granada:
We had a lot of injury issues before heading into the clash against Granada. Especially, we didn’t have proper options in the midfield and had to makeshift arrangements. We scored four goals but could not keep the Granada from finding their way into the nets twice. Benzema, Hazard, Modric, and James Rodriguez got their names on the scoresheet. Granada came into this match as a no.2 on the table and it was a battle for the number 1 spot on the La Liga Table. We clinched a narrow victory and remained on the top of La Liga Table before the International Break.

Mallorca vs Real Madrid:
The match against Mallorca went as a disastrous nightmare. We did not only lose 3 important points but also threw away our first position on La Liga Table to FC Barcelona. The match was very disappointed for the fans. The players came from national duties and were ineffective due to fatigue. J Lago of Mallorca scored the only goal of the match that went unchanged throughout the game. Madrid was playing with makeshift midfielders in the game that cost them the match. We created plenty of chances and goalscoring opportunities but our forwards could not capitalize them. The match ended in a loss for Los Blancos.

Galatasaray vs Real Madrid:
This was another important match for us in the UEFA Champions League. It was a good fixture for us considering we won the game and came back home with 3 points. It wasn’t a convincing performance but it helped us to get in the 2ng positions in the Champions League Group Stage Table. Toni Kroos scored the only goal for the Whites and we somehow managed to keep the opposition from scoring. Real Madrid won their first match in the UEFA Champions League competition by beating Galatasaray.

FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid:
The match was initially scheduled for 26 October 2019 but has been postponed due to the protest in Barcelona after nine Catalan separatist leaders were recently jailed. La Liga asked Barcelona to switch the venue of El Classico to Santiago Bernabeu but both clubs disagreed with the proposal. The first Classico of the 2019/20 LaLiga season between Barcelona and Real Madrid will take place on 18 December 2019.
Real Madrid vs Leganés:
Real Madrid vs Leganés turned out to be a goal feast. We won the last game of the month with a 5-0 scoreline. It was a home game. Rodrygo, Kroos, Benzema, and Jovic got their names on the scoresheet in Santiago Bernabeu. The match was pretty one-sided. The youngsters performed in the match and left the critics in silence. Benzema was exceptional throughout his playing time. Hazard was declared as Man Of The Match. Real Madrid earned three points with a total of 21 points to secure the second position behind Barcelona.

Injury Updates:
Injuries have been a great concern for Real Madrid since the start of the season. Nacho and Asensio have been injured for quite a long time and still have not recovered. We also got several injured players in October, let’s review them. Nacho was the first to get injured, then, Modric, Kroos, Lucas Vasquez, and Marcelo followed him. Kroos recovered earlier and played the matches after the International Break. Modric came late and Vasquez has missed many matches because of the injuries. James and Bale were out of the squad for personal reasons and technical decisions throughout the month of October. Ferland Mendy returned from the injury and was in the squad against Leganés but Zidane didn’t risk him.
