Welcome back to cfrealmadrid.com. Our topic for today is the Match Preview of Getafe vs Real Madrid. La Liga action is back after the winter break, and we are set to go away from home and face the difficult side of Getafe. Yes, it is actually tough to face Getafe especially at their home. We really don’t have the momentum as well because we have drawn our last 3 games in a row. Therefore, this is a must-win game for us.
We dropped points against Athletico Bilbao in our last game before the winter break which put us 2 points behind FC Barcelona. Therefore, if we want to get back on track, and be the favorites for the La Liga title, we better get back into winning ways.
Currently, Real Madrid are 2nd on the points table with 37 points. Getafe are 6th with 30 points. This shows that Getafe are hungrier than ever to reach into the top 4. A win in this fixture is going to put them at the 4th place above Atletico Madrid. Therefore, we can expect top quality football, and a desire from every player to put in their best performances. So, without any further delay, let’s start our Match Preview of Getafe vs Real Madrid.
Getafe VS Real Madrid Match Preview:
Facing Getafe at their home is a really challenging task. When you face them at their home, the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, playing football can be really difficult. We must step into this game with an open mentality and Zidane has a lot of homework to do for this encounter. As mentioned above, Getafe are going to fight till the last moment, and dropping points is simply not an option for us. If we do drop points here and Barcelona wins their game against Espanyol, things are going to be really difficult for us in the La Liga race. Now, let’s take a look at our squad for Getafe.
Kick Off Time:
Getafe vs Real Madrid will kick off at 04:00 PM as per local time from Coliseum Alfonso Pérez Stadium. You can check the kick off timings for your respective region in the following image:
Squad for Getafe vs Real Madrid:
The manager named a squad of 18 players who traveling for this away fixture. These players are:
- Goalkeepers: Courtois and Areola.
- Defenders: Carvajal, Militão, Varane, Nacho, Odriozola, and Mendy.
- Midfielders: Kroos, Modric, Casemiro, Valverde, and Isco.
- Forwards: Benzema, Bale, Jović, Vinicius Jr, and Rodrygo.
Expected Starting Lineup:
Thibaut Courtois is the most likely goalkeeper to start this game. The Belgian needs to make his feet steady in the La Liga. Although he has been in good form recently, I think he is not yet settled properly in the league. He really needs to step up in the upcoming matches. Thibaut is undoubtedly a World Class goalkeeper. However, he has not his true potential in Los Blancos.
In the past, he has conceded several sloppy goals with many recurring mistakes. He needs to avoid this if he wants to help Real Madrid win the La Liga title. Obviously, Courtois is a big signing. However, he is not at that level what the fans expect. He has shown improvements, but, according to me, those improvements are nowhere near what is expected from him.
Furthermore, Getafe is going to be a strong opponent for Courtois because their players like to make yards of spaces for themselves, and take as many shots as possible. Therefore, Courtois can expect to be really busy throughout the game. He is going to be on his toes for the entire game, and he must focus on putting on a great performance.
Mendy is going to start at the Left Back. Marcelo is not included in the squad which means that Mendy is the most likely starter in that position. Mendy has been really solid for the club. He is like a regular player who performs on a consistent basis. Furthermore, Mendy’s decision making is really quick and he has decent pace to go forward.
Mendy often joins the attack and is always present at the wing to deliver crosses. Mendy has an average of delivering around 10-14 crosses per game. This is a lot for a Left Back player. Even in the defense, Mendy is always present to help his team. He always drops down and defends like an out-and-out defender. Furthermore, Mendy is a good replacement for Marcelo and is surely going to shine more in the future.
Carvajal is the most obvious player to start on the Right Back. Carvajal is one of the senior defenders in the team, and is really consistent with his performances. He is immensely strong against faster or strong players. It is really difficult to get past him, and he has been doing a great job for the men in white over the years. The most important thing is that he is really good at creating chances and his assists clearly shows his capabilities.
Sergio Ramos is out of the squad due to a suspension after accumulating 5 yellow cards. This puts Nacho in the starting lineup. Nacho is nowhere near Ramos in terms of quality, however, he can do a fair job as a backup in any defensive role. Nacho is going to partner up with Varane who’s strength is not unknown to us.
Varane is a really strong, and a really quick defender. Varane’s aerial ability is superb, and he is a nightmare for the opposition strikers. Therefore, despite Ramos is unavailable for the game, we still have a great defensive lineup heading into the away fixture. Most importantly, Varane has finally regained his form which is surely going to help us in throughout the season.
Toni Kroos, Casmeiro, and Valverde are the most likely midfielders to start the game. This is a great midfield trio, and if it really clicks, Getafe can have a lot of problems. Casemiro is in hot form and he is a tireless worker for the team. He is the backbone for Real Madrid and he surely is going to trouble Getafe with his pressing, passing, and great ball snatching abilities. His work rate is superb and he is always present in the attack as well as the defense. Casemiro is surely a great asset to our midfield, and we want to see the best out of him.
Toni Kroos and Valverde are again really strong in the midfield. Valverde has shown us his quality from time to time. Even in the game against Barcelona, Valverde was present everywhere. He even took 2 great volleys and made life really difficult for Ter Stegen. He must look to do the same against Getafe as well.
Valverde’s quick gameplay combined with the mastermind of Toni Kroos can cause havoc for any opposition. We just need to ensure that we don’t lose possession and we keep our heads up the entire game. Our morale must not drop and we have to try our best to dominate the opposition.
Gareth Bale is going to start on the Right Wing. Bale is now getting good playing time under Zinedine Zidane and he must look to capitalize on the opportunities he is getting. Bale is a World Class player and we all know that. However, it looks as if he has put his football on the back burner and does not seem to care anymore. We also heard rumors of Gareth leaving the club for the Premier League soon. This is not confirmed yet and Bale has to start performing his best now. He had a great few games, especially in El Classico. He must respect the chance he is getting and perform well.
Vinicius Jr is the likely choice to start as the Left Winger because Hazard is still out due to injury. Vinicius is a fresh raw talent and we need to get the best out of him. He has shown us from time to time that he is the right player for Real Madrid and his quality can trouble any opposition in the world. However, he is not in the rhythm we want him to be in. Consistency really matters at the top level.
Karim Benzema is the obvious and the most likely starter as the Central Striker. Benzema is in red hot form banging in goals with consistency. He is faster than ever and he is just in the right mindset we want him to be. Benzema is surely one of the best strikers in La Liga, and he must continue to be like that. We need goals and a great performance from the French forward against Getafe.
The bench is also sorted and stable for us. We have Luka Modric who is the midfield sensation. Modric can come in the later stages of the game to create a heavy impact. Furthermore, Modric can bring in freshness and control which can uplift our momentum.
Rodrygo is also there who can come later in the game and create an immense attacking threat. We all know how good he is in the attack, and if he gets going, Getafe are going to be in serious trouble.
This is a must-win game for us. It’s a tough fixture and Zidane must come up with the best of his tactics. However, I am optimistic about this match and I think we are going to win this game with a 3-0 scoreline.
Anyways, guys, this is it for the Match Preview of Getafe vs Real Madrid.
