Hello and welcome to cfrealmadrid.com. Today we are doing Match Review of the Galatasaray vs Real Madrid. One line for the match will be “Bad game but a useful one to win “. This line clearly elaborates the whole game. Real Madrid did manage to score one goal despite struggling in the game and we prevented the opposition from scoring even when it seemed to be very hard throughout the match. Here we are with a victory on our hands. Real Madrid have finally managed to win their first champions league match this season.
Real Madrid was on the bottom before of the group before this game. Now, we are at the second spot right behind PSG with 4 points in 3 matches. Paris Saint Germain is on top of the group with 9 points with 3 wins out of 3 games in group A. It has been a very tricky week so far for the Real Madrid community and players. We lost to Mallorca right before going into the Champions League match. We won 3 points away from home but it wasn’t a convincing performance. Now, we have to improve and step up our game to get better results.
Real Madrid have faced many injuries issues right from the start of the season. Almost 5,6 players are always injured before heading into a game which hinders our true potential. There are 25 players in our squad and Madrid is ready to offload Brahim Diaz, Mariano and probably Isco because a lot of clubs are eyeing his exit. Anyways, we will discuss the transfer news and rumors another day, for the moment, let’s just focus on Galatasaray vs Real Madrid Match Review.
Galatasaray vs Real Madrid -Match Review:
Let’s start our detailed Match Review of Galatasaray vs Real Madrid. Real Madrid started the game as usual. There were highs and lows in the match for them. Toni Kroos scored his first goal in the 18th minute of the match. Both teams could have scored more goals considering the chances they had but could not capitalize. Hazard had the best opportunity to score a goal but hit the crossbar after rounding the keeper in the box. It was a simple and easy chance begging to be scored but Hazard could not find the net.
The Turkish side imposed the pressure in the later stages of the game but they were denied by Courtois. Toni Kroos, the man of the match, was playing his 100th Champions League Match. Zidane deployed 4-3-3 with Rodrygo on the right wing, Benzema in the center and Hazard on the left. I could not help but notice that Benzema played most of the game on the left wing with Hazard. It was as if we were playing with 2 wingers which left a gap in the box. There was nobody in the box to trouble Galatasaray.
Moreover, Galatasaray was not up to mark defensively. Their line positioning was all over the place, and their back passing was also very shaky. Yet, they had three clear-cut chances to score because Real Madrid’s positioning was crooked too. Both fullbacks of Madrid were also sleeping on their flank. Marcelo had nothing to do except attempting bling crosses in hope of finding someone who could turn it into goals. Dutch forward, Ryan Babel, was continuously roasting Real Madrid’s fullbacks.
Another aspect in the match was Valverde, his high pressing on the pitch was very impressive. He brought ultimate energy to the team and even covered for Casemiro and Kroos on several occasions. He also won the ball many times on the pitch, thus bought calmness and stability in the center of the park.
Zidane picked Courtois ahead of Areola in the Champions League game. Courtois played brilliantly and replied to the critics with an impressive performance. He saved three crucial shots from the opposition. His positioning as we discussed in the preview of match was way better than his previous displays. He also told after the match that he has a belief on himself and his confidence drew better performance from him. However, he took a yellow card in the final minutes of the game.
Carvajal and Marcelo were not defensively impressive in the match. Marcelo came with useless crosses that provide a thing to the fans to criticize Zidane’s policy of crossing and tactical approach in every match. Sergio Ramos and Varane also looked rusty and patchy. Most importantly, Varane had problems with controlling the ball in the box. This defensive line has to improve, they have played in three Champions League finals and won it for Real Madrid and I don’t think they are old enough to deline so much from their prime.
Kroos, Casemiro, and Valverde were in the lineup in the midfield. Kroos scored the only goal. Casemiro, the only CDM for Real Madrid in the squad, was playing and made 13 recoveries which were mode than any player from whites. Valverde was also very brilliant. I love the way he is improving day by day in the Modric’s absence. His work rate is very good. He also plugged so much space in the broken midfield and was literally impeccable. Kroos was probably the best player from Real Madrid and also coming from the injury but very useful with the ball. James came in the last few minutes and showed some glimpses of greatness.
Hazard, Benzema, and Rodrygo were selected for playing in the line of attack. Rodrygo on the right flank was good. Starting his Champions league match was not easy but he covered some ground on the wings and showed some glimpses of his potential. Benzema looked impressive on controlling the ball and with chances created but lacked finishing and luck. His passing accuracy was also good. Hazard assisted the Kroos goal and was good at passing but Benzema dropped on the left with Hazard and there was nobody in the box. Vinicius Jr. And Luka Jovic came as substitutes in the later stage and Vinicius managed to win some free kicks from the opposition.
His passing accuracy was 100% in the match. Kroos came from the injury and performed well in his first startup. Toni Kroos is the 39th player in history to make 100 Champions League appearances. He joins the elite group of just FIVE players to have scored on their 100th UCL appearance: Henry, Ibrahimovic, Pirlo, and Ronaldo all did the same. The midfield maestro is the fifth German player to claim a UCL century after Kahn, Neuer, Lahm, and Muller. Kroos was the player to score the only goal for Real Madrid. In total, Kroos made 59 Champions League appearances and scored three goals while playing for Real Madrid. His stats in the match are as follows:
- 1 Goal
- 82 Touches
- 4 Key passes
- 5 Accurate long balls
- 4 Chances created
- 3 Interceptions
- 2 Tackles won
- 7 Duels won
That’s all from today’s Match Review of Galatasaray vs Real Madrid. El-Classico has been shifted in December after the political situation of Catalonia which good for Real Madrid considering our injury crisis. Real Madrid have to improve their poor shot conversion rate to score more goals in the coming matches. We cannot win against tougher oppositions if we are not clinical in front of goal. Kindly give your input by leaving a comment and let us know what do you think of our Match Review. Until next time, Hala Madrid!
