Club Brugge vs Real Madrid-Match Review:
Zidane started ambitious line up against Brugge on Saturday. Luka Jovic, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, Odriozola, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Alphonse Areola (plus Brahim Diaz) are all under the age of 26. It was great opportunity for all of them to express themselves and show their talent and potential to the world. All the players did well but individually. As a team, it took some minutes to get rolling.
Brugge plan in the game was to attack us. The defensive positioning of Madrid without Ramos was not up to the mark. Brugge took the advantage, in first half, they have 5 offside calls and 4 shots on the target. After the fist half, Rodrygo took a lead of one goal from Odriozola through ball from the Modric initial release. The score became 0-1 to Real Madrid.
Few minutes later, Brugge Vanaken responded brilliantly and levelled the scoring for Brugge. In the 65th minute, Vinicius pounces from the close range. Brugge failed to clear the lines from header of Jovic. Rodrygo tried to smash that ball but it was block. The loose ball then came to Vinicius and he forced the ball with his right foot to put the Madrid in the goal advantage.
Luka Modric ended the game for Brugge with his brilliant finish. He stroked the ball from the edge of the box. This ball is teed up by Casemiro. Madrid went 3-1 and secured three points from the game. Valverde, Benzema and Diaz came as a substitute in the match.
Areola played in the starting spot against Brugge. Areola was supported by out of position and slippery defense. Although he played a good game overall. He had one diving save against Brugge. Areola is still new in the club and requires time to settle into the new team.
Odriozola and Mendy played as a full backs in the game. With both Odriozola and Mendy playing out wide, Zidane’s men kept trying to help the team move forward and whip balls in from the wings Madrid was stretched out along the back and Militao and Raphael Varane were forced to cover all the space themselves.
Militao and Varane was out of their positions in the opposition attack but Casemiro and Modric covered all the space. However, both of them played brilliantly as an individual. There was often a gaping hole in the centre from Madrid and Brugge had many chances from that holes.
Madrid put Isco on Kroos role and Modric was the other midfielder on the pitch with him. Casemiro was at the holding position as usual. The movements of player from the middle is brilliant especially from Vinicius, Isco and Rodrygo. The role of senior players especially Modric and Casemiro was very vital for the Zidane’s side. Kroos which was absent is known for controlling the flow of the game from Madrid. Whenever, he is not playing Madrid is having problems. Valverde came late in the match. He was really brilliant.
Rodrygo, Vinicius and Jovic was the attackers in the starting spot. Jovic was often isolated and could not link up with other players. Zidane is thinking to loan him in the winter transfer window. As he is not finding any position to play Jovic regularly. Vinicius and Rodrygo were the young guns who played together in this game, showed his Brazilian magic individually. Both the players were in the scoring sheet. Vinicius scored his first goal for Real Madrid in the champions league.
Rodrygo kept his champions league goal scoring form continue. Vini and Rodrygo are doing well but still need some of the experience from the first team to fully get the squad rolling.
